United States mattress sizes

US mattress names are inch-led nominal conventions. Full is also called Double, while California King changes both width and length relative to King.

Direct answer

Twin, Full, Queen and King are market labels—not universal measurements.

These are nominal reference dimensions, not a promise that every finished mattress, bed base, fitted sheet or frame opening will match.

Native units are retained. BedMetric derives the second unit system from the same millimetre value so the two displays cannot drift apart.

Naming and aliases

Twin, Full, Queen and King are market labels—not universal measurements.

Full and Double can describe the same US category, while California King and King differ on both axes.

Tolerance and fit

Nominal convention; check the model specification.

Measure the finished product and the frame’s internal opening. Do not infer compatibility from a market name or a rounded conversion.

Cross-country warning

A matching name in another country is not proof of the same dimensions. Use mattress sizes by country or compare two qualified records before buying.
